ric is an artist and a new business owner. He lived in Ken-
tucky, Texas and Kansas before moving to Athens, GA

when he was 21. Eric has disabilities as a result of premature birth and has worked hard to create a meaningful life.

Since 1992 Eric has lived in his own home with support. He is active in his community, using his lift van (driven by his support companion) to get around town for grocery shopping and other activities of daily living.

Since 2002 he has been a regular volunteer for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. With the assistance of his support companion, Eric delivers food to many families twice a week. The Food Bank has recognized him as their most faithful and reliable volunteer. In the spring of 2004, the Food Bank nominated him for a TBS Superstation Pathfinder Award. He was one of 12 finalists out of 2,000 nominations and received his award at a public event in Atlanta. He brought home $2,000 for the local food bank, and his story has been shown along with the other finalists on TBS Superstation Channel 9.

Eric's business venture, Splashes By Eric, is the result of his participation in a supported employment grant at The University of Georgia. Having been an artist for over 10 years, he has decided to market his colorful abstract designs as note cards, greeting cards, and gift tags. Later he may decide to market other products ornamented with his designs.

Eric developed his art methods with the help of Manita Dean, his friend and speech therapist. He uses the limited mobility of his left hand to create his signature style. He hopes the profits from his business will bring him economic self-sufficiency, as well as make him a taxpayer. He also wants to give back to his community and pledges to donate 5% of annual net profits to the Georgia Options Foundation. Georgia Options, Inc. provides the personal support services which enable Eric to live an active life.
